Little Porcupine Goes to the Psyche Ward

It starts with PROZAC. A divorced woman alone with three children is terrified of getting a job, so instead of coaching her how to work, she is given prozac. The psychiatric drug gives her a major disease. More drugs are added to "fix" the problem, a typical medical response. She ends up in a mental hospital for two years, unable to sleep. This is a True Story.

She is unable to tell the story directly without regressing painfully, so she writes a graphic novel where she turns all the characters into animals. She herself is the porcupine. The main psychiatrist is Dr. Penguin. Later, there is a hero, Jack Rabbit. There are many interesting, if not shocking, animal characters. It is her inner child that tells this tale.

Psychiatry isn't like other medical professions. If cardiac doctors had so many side effects with their treatments, who would go see them?? The number of people who have severe side effects from psychiatric drugs is down played by virtually everyone. When you go to a psychiatrist, you are basically a guinea pig. Luck is a big factor.

Little Porcupine sent a copy of her book to the Dr. Phil Show and they didn't want to touch it. No one wants to tell just how bad psychiatry can be.

Little Porcupine was encouraged by a library specialist in Gainesville, Florida. And two young illustrators helped make the book a reality.

This book is available on Amazon. It is a pretty decent graphic novel. It tells the truth.
